Rhode Island is not always a person’s first thought when they’re looking for waterfalls, but we actually have a good collection of falls of all shapes and sizes. Because they are not as well known, they are also less trafficked, which makes for a peaceful visit for you and anyone you might want to bring along. Here are seven of our favorite falls in the state!
This impressive man-made waterfall is a part of the historic Slater Mills, first built in 1793 in Pawtucket Rhode Island. You can couple your visit with a trip to Slater Mills itself which is a museum and educational center now. The falls are the perfect place to enjoy a cute picnic after learning a bit about their creation and location!
Horseshoe Falls is located in an old mill village called Shannock Rhode Island. Another man made fall created alongside the building of mills, the impressive power of these falls is something to behold! They got their name, Horseshoe falls due to their horseshoe shape and it truly does something special to the water when they are really rushing.
Located on the Ken Webber Conservation Trail in Smithfield, Cascade Falls are some of Rhode Island's most impressive natural falls. At 12 feet high with a gorgeous horseshoe shape, they can be found running the majority of the year.
A part of the Albion dam, Albion falls is a gorgeous wide fall that can be accessed through Blackstone River State Park. This fall is once again a result of Rhode Island's rich mill history and is still very much a secret gem of Rhode Island, a visit there is sure to be quiet!
Yet another stunning man-made fall is the one that results from the Robin Hollow pond dam. This impressive waterfall is about 10 feet high and absolutely worth a stop!
The gorgeous Step Stone Falls can be located on the Ben Utter Trail near West Greenwich. At almost 100 feet wide and 10 feet tall, these often rushing falls are truly an inspiring sight to behold!
Pawtuxet means "Little Falls" in the Native Narragansett Language, and that's what the Pawtuxet River offers. With four dams along its length, each creating a "little fall" of its own, the Pawtuxet River Falls is truly a sight to behold!
