The best things in life are worth the wait — even if that includes waiting in line. This is most certainly the case in Troutdale, Oregon, where Sugarpine Drive-In serves up some of the best comfort food around. Though this Oregon drive-in is a relative newcomer, opening its doors in 2018, it’s quickly become a favorite destination in its little corner of the state, where long lines and smiling customers speak volumes. And the Waffle Grilled Cheese from Sugarpine Drive-In? Well, it’s already quite legendary!

What are some other classic drive-ins in Oregon?

Do you love all things retro and nostalgic? Same! If you enjoy places like Sugarpine Drive-In, you'll be delighted to discover the following delightful drive-ins in Oregon. Some offer food, some show movies... all are equally fun to visit!

  • Eastwind Drive-In. A classic roadside burger shack that’s been around since 1939, Eastwind Drive-In is an under-the-radar favorite located along the Columbia River in Cascade Locks, Oregon. This unassuming little shake shack dishes up epic burgers, thick milkshakes, and face-sized soft serve cones, for the ultimate greasy spoon experience!
  • Mike's Drive-In. While Mike's Drive-In is a casual spot, it's not actually fast food. Everything here is made fresh to order, and their motto is, "It may take a little longer, but you're worth it!" With four locations throughout Oregon -- Milwaukie, Oregon City, Tigard, and Lombard -- you're never far from a delicious drive-in dining experience!
  • Sunshine Mill. In the Dalles of Oregon, Sunshine Mill is a nostalgic nod to the past that's anything but your typical drive-in movie theatre. For starters, this Oregon drive-in is located at a winery... yes, a winery! The winery operates in a historic building that's lived many lives and harkens all the way back to the turn of the 20th-century. The Sunshine Biscuit Company once owned the property and the wheat milled here was used to make (drumroll please...) everyone's favorite cracker: the Cheez-It! At the beginning of the pandemic, the winery converted its parking lot into a drive-in movie theater, and it was so popular, it became a permanent fixture, and we're so happy it did.
  • Sno Cap Drive-In has been the go-to spot in Sisters since it opened in 1954. Other than a few tweaks to the menu over the decades, not much else has changed, and it's still a great spot for tasty food. You'll find the drive in at 380 W. Cascade Ave., Sisters, Oregon. This drive-in is pretty tiny, but it does offer a few booths inside for dining when the weather's inclement. Enjoy your meal here, take it outside to the picnic tables, or pull up at the window and order it to go. Mmm!
