These 6 Haunted Cemeteries In Cincinnati Are Not For the Faint of Heart
Cemeteries are often beautiful and can be serene places to visit and reflect. Of course, they are the final resting place for many, so it is also fairly common for a cemetery to have a ghost story or two. Cincinnati has several cemeteries, both large and small, and many are the source of creepy tales. If you enjoy a bone-chilling story or exploring a place that is said to be haunted, then check out these six haunted cemeteries around Cincinnati that are definitely not for the faint of heart.
Spring Grove Cemetery is the largest and most well known in the city, and given that much of Cincinnati’s history is literally buried here, it’s not surprising that there are more than a few ghost stories associated with the beautiful property. Visitors frequently report sightings of ghostly figures, as well as the sense that they are not alone among the headstones and monuments.
Woodland Cemetery, formerly known as Woodland Hills, is a historic spot in Dayton with many fascinating tales. It happens to be where Orville and Wilbur Wright are buried, as well as local man named Johnny Morehouse, whose gravesite is shown above. Legends say that Johnny died as a young boy after falling into the Miami Erie Canal and freezing to death, despite the efforts of his faithful dog to save him from drowning. The dog is said to have visited Johnny’s gravesite until its own death, after which this statue was added. Many believe that the spirits of young Johnny and his beloved dog roam the cemetery, united in the afterlife.
Miami Cemetery is located at the corner of SR-128 & Mill Street in Miamitown. This particular graveyard includes remains that were moved from other cemeteries in the area. Visitors report unsettling feelings on the property and some even claim to have witnessed the spirit of a woman in a white dress wandering the cemetery at night.
Take a look at the photo above. Do the parking lot and the tower in the background look familiar? Look closer and you'll also see a small cemetery, known as Dog Street Cemetery; an 1800s-era graveyard that sits adjacent to the King's Island parking lot. If you've ever ridden the train at Kings Island, then you've surely heard the story of the little girl in the blue dress who haunts our city's largest amusement park. She happens to be buried in this very cemetery.
Located in the Trenton, Ohio area, Hickory Flats Cemetery is infamous for its hauntings. It's said that an old caretaker armed with a hatchet will chase out anyone who tries to enter the cemetery at night. Since you're technically not supposed to visit cemeteries at night anyway, we may never know whether this ghost story is true or not.
Located within East Fork Lake State Park is a little-known cemetery that has basically been abandoned. Graves date back to the Civil War and there are several dedicated to unknown occupants. The land definitely has a historic feel and is the source of a few bone-chilling ghost stories.
