As if Northern California’s wine region in the Sierra Nevada Foothills wasn’t picturesque enough, the Smith Flat House near Placerville just proves that this region offers everything and then some. The historic, rustic, and incredibly sophisticated establishment offers everything from impeccable dining to a relaxed, fun atmosphere.
The Smith Flat House was originally built in 1853. Back in the day, it consisted of a a general store, post office, bedroom, dining
room and dance floor.
Legend tells that the original owners built the Smith Flat House, then called the Three Mile House because of its distance from Old Hangtown, in this precise location to hide the entrance to a gold mine.
There is an old gold mine entrance here, but the helpful location of the building along the route to Carson City also may have played a role in where it was built.
Regardless, this building is loved by locals and visitors to the area alike. It's located in the Apple Hill and wine country region of El Dorado County.
This dreamy restaurant offers so much more than just a place to eat. It's a cultural hub, a fine dining experience, a place to gather with loved ones, a journey back in time, and, of course, a place to drink great wine!
