This Charming Restaurant In The Heart Of Wine Country Is A Northern California Dream
As if Northern California’s wine region in the Sierra Nevada Foothills wasn’t picturesque enough, the Smith Flat House near Placerville just proves that this region offers everything and then some. The historic, rustic, and incredibly sophisticated establishment offers everything from impeccable dining to a relaxed, fun atmosphere.
The Smith Flat House was originally built in 1853. Back in the day, it consisted of a a general store, post office, bedroom, dining
room and dance floor.
It has been a community hub for a long time, but it was renovated with a stunning courtyard, wood fired pizza oven, and other modern luxuries.
Legend tells that the original owners built the Smith Flat House, then called the Three Mile House because of its distance from Old Hangtown, in this precise location to hide the entrance to a gold mine.
There is an old gold mine entrance here, but the helpful location of the building along the route to Carson City also may have played a role in where it was built.
Regardless, this building is loved by locals and visitors to the area alike. It's located in the Apple Hill and wine country region of El Dorado County.
In fact, its entrance is just a stone's throw away from one of the many wineries that cover these hills.
Visitors will be immediately charmed by the stunning courtyard, which offers a laid back, family friendly vibe.
The dining is usually more casual outside, too. Wood fired pizzas are a popular menu item here.
It's the perfect place to raise a glass and toast your loved ones.
And we definitely recommend trying the local vintages for those 21 and over!
The restored courtyard is lovely. Visit on a warm but not too hot day and you will fall in love with the place.
Inside, the restaurant has a slightly more sophisticated atmosphere. The historic bar is a must see for any history buffs.
The basement dining area is upscale with a hint of mining, as one fan of the restaurant puts it perfectly.
You will definitely see that level of sophistication come through on the menu, as well.
The finest locally sourced ingredients are carefully chosen to maximize the quality and flavor of these meals.
The Smith Flat House is just one of the many restaurants in the Gold Country that offer surprisingly decadent fine dining.
Don't let the rural atmosphere fool you, there is an incredible food and wine scene in this area.
This dreamy restaurant offers so much more than just a place to eat. It's a cultural hub, a fine dining experience, a place to gather with loved ones, a journey back in time, and, of course, a place to drink great wine!
