There Are 17,000 Blooming Tulips Every Spring At Crystal Hermitage Gardens In Northern California
It may not feel like it yet in certain parts of NorCal, but it’s officially the spring season and you know what that means—spring blooms! It’s only a matter of time before our social feeds become flooded with photos of blooming flowers and vibrant foliage. We’re definitely not complaining, though—in fact, we welcome it. The massive tulip bloom that takes place every year at Crystal Hermitage Gardens in Nevada City is one of our favorites, and it’s a great example of the beauty the spring season brings every year.
Editor’s Note: In response to the current situation with coronavirus and COVID-19, Crystal Hermitage has canceled its 2020 Springtime at Ananda event for April and May. They hope to share plenty of photos of the tulip bloom on their Facebook, and they plan to commence with Summertime at Ananda in July as planned.

Located in Nevada City, Crystal Hermitage is a beautiful garden that has attracted visitors from all over the world. It's filled to the brim with many types of magnificent flowers and plants, but the spring tulip bloom is by far one of the garden's most exciting events.
Every spring, up to 17,000 tulips can be seen in bloom throughout the garden. This year, they planted over 111 varieties of mid and late season Dutch bulbs, so this April's bloom is expected to be as big and bright as ever.
Typically, visitors are welcome to view the bloom from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Boasting meandering paths, waterfalls, a shrine, and multiple pools, walking through the garden as the tulips are in bloom is a fantastical experience.
Considered one of Nevada City's top visitor destinations, Crystal Hermitage began as the home of Swami Kriyananda who wrote as many as 140 books and 400 pieces of music during his time here. Kriyananda was the founder of Ananda, a worldwide spiritual movement that was founded in the 1960s.
In fact, the gardens were built as a destination for meditation, praying, and experiencing the joy in nature. Regardless of anybody's beliefs, there's no denying that the garden is the perfect place to let your mind relax as you lose yourself in nature.
Springtime is obviously an excellent time to visit the garden, but summertime also brings plenty of beautiful sights. During July and August, visitors can enjoy an array of roses, begonias, geraniums, petunias, marigolds, and so much more.
