There’s A Toad Village In Northern California, And It’s One Of The Quirkiest Places You’ll Ever Go

Toad Hollow in Davis, Northern California, is a quirky roadside attraction featuring a toad village with tunnels built to help toads cross a busy road safely.

It started as a way for toads to cross the road. Soon after the toad tunnel was built, this toad crossing had little buildings made for toads. This adorable toad village in Davis, Northern California is a cute and quirky pit stop you’ll want to see.

When a six-lane road was going to replace a dirt road where toads would cross, local wildlife activists and animal lovers spoke up.

In 1995, the city of Davis spent around $14,000 to install an underground tunnel for toads and frogs so the amphibians wouldn’t get hit by vehicles.

Locals put up the cute toad village and decor, and named this area “Toad Hollow”.

There are actually several tunnels in this area that lead all of the toads and frogs to a reservoir.

This cute little toad village is located on a tiny bit of land next to the post office in Davis.

To get to this magical little toad village, first, you’ll park at the USPS office. From there, you can walk to Toad Hollow. It’ll be located in a small patch of grass not too far from the post office.

Bring your camera to snap pics of the toad hotel and bar. Who knows– maybe you’ll see some toads, too!

There is some debate about whether or not the toads use the tunnels. But either way, this is an adorable roadside attraction.

This adorable little tourist attraction is located right off of Highway 50 at Pole Line Road.

From exiting the highway to parking and seeing the village, probably takes 15 minutes or less. We recommend you stop by and check it out.

Take a day trip to the city of Davis. There is so much to do and see, in addition to Toad Hollow.

There is the UC Davis Arboretum, where you can spend an afternoon exploring. Or visit downtown Davis' many restaurants, bars, and shops.
