Some of the best summer memories come from a specific few things, such as road trips and ice cream. What if you could do both all in one? This ice cream trail in western and central North Dakota will take you to some of the very best ice cream stops in the entire state, all on a fun road trip through the prairie. Buckle up, hit the road and be prepared for some sweet treats!

1. Eats N' Treats - Bowman
Your first stop is Eats N' Treats in Bowman, ND, in the very southwest corner of the state. This family-owned ice cream shop has so much more than soft serve. Their delicious ice cream kicks off the trip great and you can also try some of their fantastic meals like burgers and fries.

2. Medora Fudge & Ice Cream Depot - Medora
Next up, take a scenic drive into the badlands and visit the wild west town of Medora. The Medora Fudge & Ice Cream Depot shop fits the theme and has exactly what it says it does: great ice cream, plus fudge as a bonus! Who could ask for more? They're only open from June 1st through summer, so get there while you can!

3. Dairy Barn - Dickinson
After that we will be heading east to Dickinson where you will find a classic, the Dairy Barn. This spot boasts 24 flavors of soft serve and has so much more, too. It really hits the spot on a hot summer day.

4. Ice Burg - Washburn
Continuing eastbound on I-94 and then up north a little ways, you'll eventually reach Washburn which is home to the Ice Burg. This charming shop is a great place for both lunch and a tasty, chilly dessert.

5. CrabApple Ice Cream Shop - Pick City
Now we reach the final destination on our journey right on the edge of Lake Sakakwea. You can grab a cone at CrabApple Ice Cream Shop, take it to the beach, and enjoy it as the sun sets over the water. That's a North Dakota experience you won't find quite the same anywhere else!
