This Hidden Park In North Carolina Feels A Million Miles From Everywhere
One of the newest city parks in North Carolina is a real show-stopper – on many levels. Located only a few miles outside a busy downtown Winston-Salem, Quarry Park feels like it’s a million miles from everywhere, but it’s not. Take a look:
The park is built around an old quarry that was in operation from the mid-1920s until the early 1970s. After the quarry shut down, the deep gully created by rock mining filled with water.
Quarry Park, with an entrance sign appropriately made of rock, takes its name from the old quarry, now the focal point for this stunning outdoor recreational resource.
Most visitors come for the peace and quiet of this park on the bluff. From the overlook pier, the tall buildings of Winston-Salem can be seen in the distance and feel oh-so far away.
A walking path around the perimeter of the quarry leads to five more fantastic overlooks. Have you discovered this amazing park in North Carolina yet? We'd love to know!
Quarry Park is located at 2450 Reynolds Park Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107. It’s open daily from 8:00 a.m. to dusk. Admission is free. Dogs are allowed as long as they are leashed.
