We don't know about you, but this year's election has us a little bit stressed. Constant coverage of rallies, debates and interviews make it almost impossible to get away from politics - even for a minute. We hope you've done your research and decided on your candidates (both national and local)...now, are you ready to take a little break? Check out these 10 spots in North Carolina that are perfect for a soothing escape.
1. Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Much of this national park is a dead zone for cell coverage. Check out of social media for awhile, and leave your news outlets and email behind while you enjoy the absolutely stunning wilderness found here. Don't worry - Only In North Carolina will still be here when you get back!
2. Quiet Reflections Retreat, Burnsville
If you're seeking some spiritual reflection, Quiet Reflections Retreat is the perfect place to visit. This non-denominational Christian retreat does not offer organized worship; rather, it allows visitors to find their own peace and companionship with God. You'll find this retreat at 730 Rock Blvd., Burnsville, surrounded by 400 acres of natural beauty at the top of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
3. Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Durham
Students at Duke have long used the Sarah P. Duke Gardens as a place to unwind and de-stress - you'll certainly find plenty of peace and serenity here as well. While you're there, climb to the top of Old Baldy to see an incredible view.
6. Southern Pines
Spend a day golfing at one of the courses in Southern Pines. Leave politics at the clubhouse, and work on your handicap instead. Election? What election?
