2. Castle Ladyhawke - Tuckasegee

This breathtaking castle is nestled high up in the mountains. Once a private estate, this castle is a popular wedding venue. Upon your arrival, you'll definitely agree that this Scottish border castle definitely belongs on the list of the best castles in North Carolina.

3. Castle of Joy - Murphy

The best part about Castle of Joy is that you can literally have this entire castle all to yourself. This castle was built by a husband and wife duo who visited Scotland, and wanted to bring the magic fo Scotland back to North Carolina. As a popular romantic getaway, this secret little castle is nestled high up in the mountains with breathtaking views all around.

4. Seely's Castle (Overlook Mansion) - Asheville

We doubt you'd want to stay a night in the haunted Seely's Castle, located just outside of Asheville. This landmark is rumored to be haunted, and the home of some truly macabre happenings. Located at 710 Mountain Road, the drive to the castle is lined with abandoned mansions that once belonged to the rich and powerful. Now, it can only be viewed through the woods. The castle is guarded by gates and cameras and is said to be under 'religious order' and no visitors are allowed.

5. Castle Mont Rouge - Rougemont

Another castle with some baggage, Castle Mont Rouge can be found hiding along a gently rolling road outside of Durham. Castle Mont Rouge, an unfinished eclectic castle structure decaying alongside the road, has tugged at the interest of passersby for ages. In truth, the eccentric structure was reportedly a love-inspired project undertaken by a husband for his wife. But sadly, she died before it was completed.

6. Biltmore Estate - Asheville

Regarded as "America's Castle," no list of castles would be complete without Biltmore Estate. Once privately owned, the Biltmore is the largest privately-owned home in America and one of the most popular tourism destinations on the east coast.
