The best waterfall hikes in North Carolina come in all shapes and sizes. A few local favorites include:
- Lower Cascade Falls at Hanging Rock State Park: This hike is less than a half mile on the Lower Cascades Trail, and the waterfall is encompassed within a unique rock formation. During the warmer months, the pool of the fall is actually perfect for wading or little swimmers to play and splash.
- Crabtree Falls Trail, Crabtree Falls Recreation Area: This three-mile loop leads to a beautiful waterfall that can be found about halfway through the hike.
- The Juney Whank Falls Trail, near Bryson City: While rated as great for beginners, this trail does feature a bit of elevation gain. You'll cross the Juney Whank Creek and then see the gorgeous waterfall with an 80-foot drop.
