This Secluded Lagoon In North Carolina Might Just Be Your New Favorite Swimming Spot
Sunburst Falls in North Carolina offers a secluded waterfall swimming hole accessible via a short hike.
Summer in North Carolina just wouldn't be the same without a visit to the mountains and a dip in a waterfall swimming hole. Fortunately, there are more than enough of them to accommodate everyone. One of the lesser-known, more secluded swimming holes literally sits below an old stone bridge on Highway 215 30 miles northwest of Brevard - and it's a beautiful little emerald lagoon. Welcome to Sunburst Falls in North Carolina.
Welcome to Sunburst Falls on the West Pigeon Fork River!
This little lagoon at the base of the waterfall is in full view of the highway above but is located so far below the roadway that it feels absolutely secluded.
A short 0.2-mile hike along the Sunburst Falls Trail leads down to the swimming area which is ringed in large boulders.
This may be the least traveled swimming hole around.
That's due mainly to the fact that there is a small pullover near the swimming spot along this winding road but it only has room for two cars at a maximum.
Once you've parked your car, the trek down to the swimming hole is about a 20-foot drop in elevation. Be sure to use caution when crossing the road and watch your footing going down the hill!
As far as secluded spots to swim in the mountains go, Sunburst Falls is an easy one to get to since it's right off the highway.
Sunburst Falls is located approximately 35 miles southwest of Asheville and 30 miles northwest of Brevard.
