There’s No Better Place To Spend The Day Than This Strawberry Farm In North Carolina
With April somehow already wrapping up, one thing is for certain – soon, fruits of all kinds will be harvesting and ready for the pickin’. While we might have to wait a bit for watermelons or peaches, the first fruit to harvest in North Carolina is ‘berry’ sweet: it’s the strawberry! Strawberry pickin’ or even just pulling over at a fruit stand on the side of the road has long been a beloved tradition for families. If you’re looking for a totally unique roadside produce stand turned strawberry extravaganza store, how about visiting the farm that’s home to the ‘world’s largest strawberry’?

Owner Lee Berry started The Berry Patch in 1995 as a small strawberry farm. He soon recognized just how often people were willing to pull over on the side of the highway for some fresh strawberries.
The Berry Patch soon turned into not just a roadside pitstop but also a place to grab a sweet treat, fresh produce of all types, jams, jellies, and delicious homemade, fresh ice cream.
Between fresh veggies and fruits, a great store, and loyal customers - what more could you need? Lee had an idea...and so the 'world's largest strawberry' was born. Taking five months to complete, the world's largest strawberry is an astonishing 24-feet tall! The giant berry is home to the ice cream shop and its namesake produce.
Fresh corn to grill along with your steaks? Zucchini and squash for a hearty veggie side? Plenty of fresh produce makes The Berry Patch more than just a spot for a sweet treat but also a place to pick up some groceries. The best part, you know where they came from and that they're fresh!
While The Berry Patch uses their 'world's largest strawberry' as a claim to fame, they're really so much more than a little ice cream shack in a giant strawberry. It's a place where summer traditions are formed, where the ice cream is always homemade and delicious, the produce fresh and the strawberries always sweet!
While many roadside pit stops are from the back of someone’s truck or either just a small fruit stand, the Berry Patch is indeed a step above the rest and perfect for a little detour on your drive to the beach or even a visit if you live nearby! Have you been here before? Where are some of your favorite fruit stands in eastern NC?
