From the freshly powdered mountaintops to the twinkling holiday lights, this area has all of the holiday cheer you could ever want. Get ready to experience Christmas in Lake Placid in New York.
Nestled between our state's tallest mountains, Lake Placid has everything from charming attractions to one-of-a-kind views and outdoor adventures that will immediately draw you in. Sitting right along the shores of Mirror Lake, this area is nothing short of magnificent. Many of the businesses lining Main Street have a front-row seat to these incredible waterfront views. And Lake Placid at Christmas—as well as its Main Street—is transformed by the annual winter glow and quickly becomes decorated in things like holiday lights and head-turning snow sculptures. It's easy to see why this is considered the best winter town in New York.
The town's Main Street isn't just decorated for the holidays; it turns into a veritable winter wonderland. You can experience the magic for yourself during the annual Holiday Village Stroll, scheduled this year for December 12th through 14th, 2025. This centerpiece event promises all kinds of holiday merriment, from a skating party to photo ops with Santa, a scavenger hunt, and much more.
Want to embrace the season like a local? Don't miss the High Peaks Ringers Annual Concert, scheduled for December 14th at 2:00 p.m. The event is completely free, although donations are accepted, and includes Christmas carols performed on traditional English hand bells. It takes place at the Adirondack Community Church.
Of course, simply strolling down Main Street is an experience unto itself, giving visitors the chance to admire decorated storefronts, cozy cafes, welcoming restaurants, and so much more. It's the perfect place to do some holiday shopping, too, and you can rest assured the items you'll find will be of high quality and a refreshing alternative to big-box stores.
As darkness settles, the town becomes even more enchanting in the glow of Christmas lights and holiday music. Need a place to stay for a night or two? The nearby Mirror Lake Inn offers even more holiday merriment.
