New York opened a facility in 1909 to help "feeble-minded" patients. Named Letchworth Village after William Pryor Letchworth, it was set up much like a college campus with multiple small buildings in an attempt to avoid an institution-like feel. It seemed like a great idea... in theory. But instead, what happened at that Rockland County, New York facility was nothing short of a nightmare. Just watch:
