Most People Don’t Know About This Underrated Zoo Hiding Just Outside Of Buffalo
As residents of the Queen City, we’re spoiled to have so many fantastic attractions right at our fingertips but sometimes it’s nice to go for a drive and explore outside of our hometown. Giving us a chance to stretch our legs and explore new places, all it takes is a quick hour and a half drive northeast to discover an underrated zoo that you’ll wish you had ventured to sooner. With new exhibits opening up this week, now’s an exciting time to make this trip — take a look.
Out in Monroe County, the Seneca Park Zoo opens up every day of the week at 10 a.m. to welcome visitors from all over New York.
With nearly 100 species to see in this 15-acre park, you'll be able to find helpful signs around the zoo pointing you in the direction of the animals you'll want to see.
This year Seneca Park began its long-term plans for expanding the zoo, opening up the initial elements of their Cold Asia habitat — featuring Red Pandas and Snow Leopards.
Another exciting piece of the zoo's expansion is the Animals of Savanna — something that's opening up this week for all to see.
At the brand new Animals of Savanna habitat, you'll get to see Zebras, Masai Giraffes, Ostriches, and the park's famous White Rhino.
With so many new habitats and animals to see at the Seneca Park Zoo this year, it's helpful that there's a tram here to transport you from one end of the zoo to the other.
Speaking of how many animals are here, the park's expansion plan includes increasing the zoo's footprint by 20 percent — resulting in new animals at the zoo, new habitats, and other exciting plans.
But don't worry, there's still plenty of things to enjoy while the zoo begins to undergo its transformation!
Throughout the year, the zoo hosts a variety of exciting events that will make you want to visit, with everything from Zoo Brews and Family Sleepovers to Halloween events and more.
So if you're ready to explore just outside of Buffalo to see what the rest of our great state has to offer, take the scenic drive out to Rochester to experience the Seneca Park Zoo this year.
