New Jersey’s Newest And Best Retro Arcade Has Just Opened With Some Familiar Faces
Metuchen might be the coolest small town in New Jersey, and it seems like this Middlesex County main street just keeps getting better and better. Hot on the heels of the opening of Meximodo, a record-setting tequila bar and restaurant, it's time for the next big debut - Yestercades Metuchen! The latest outpost of this wildly popular retro arcade in New Jersey (also found in Red Bank, Somerville, and Westfield) is catnip for 90s kids like me. It's jam-packed with old-school arcade games, including some of the most popular beat-em-up multiplayer games of all time. There's one game here in particular that ate too many of my quarters to count as a teenager - but no more, because Yestercades operates on a timed all-you-can play model. You just buy your wristband or day pass, and let the games begin for as long as you want!
Built in an old-school bank, the newest Yestercades is right on the main street of Metuchen - and its opening had lines around the block!
It's not hard to see why! This is a massive retro arcade, including a full row of vintage pinball machines...
But the big highlight is the massive collection of retro arcade consoles. And we mean REALLY retro - this includes some of the very first video games ever made!
But things get a bit more modern here as well - some of the highlights at Yestercades Metuchen include the wildly popular 90s Spider-Man, Turtles in Time, and X-Men beat-em-ups.
If you're like me, you already have "Nothing can stop Blob" echoing in your head.
There are also some unique one-off games, including Dance Dance Revolution, air hockey, and pool.
But if the consoles aren't enough for you, head over to the big wall where you'll find just about every retro video game you can imagine...
And take it over to the right console, plug it in, and play like it's 1985 to 2005 again!
Have you visited Yestercades Metuchen or any of the older sister locations? What's your favorite game at this retro arcade in New Jersey? Let us know in the comments section! When you're done playing, you're just a few minutes' walk on Main Street from Hailey's Harp and Pub, maybe New Jersey's best authentic Irish pub.
