New Jersey is known for its offbeat museums and attractions, and its no surprise that there are a lot of them hiding in the Garden State! After all, there has been a lot of history in this small state over the years, and our museums celebrate everything from the paranormal to the history of pinball. But to see a museum that's a little bit of everything, head to the Lakehurst Historical Society in New Jersey. Housed in an old church, this museum is a quirky hodgepodge celebrating New Jersey history, mythology, and everything in between. You won't have to spend too long here to get the full experience, but you will get some truly unique memories - including an encounter with one of New Jersey's most infamous residents!
Hidden in a small church, the Lakehurst Historical Society is one of New Jersey's most unique museums.
It collects artifacts, documents, and oddities from across New Jersey's long history.
The historic nature even extends to the building you find it in, complete with vintage stained glass windows.
The museum has an extensive display of military and aviation figurines and historic items - including some debris from the Hindenburg, which crashed in NJ.
It also has some true oddities, including a taxidermy dog. He's kind of the mascot of the museum.
There's also a historic jail cell that was used in the early 20th century. It's one of the best photo ops in the museum.
And of course, it wouldn't be a New Jersey museum without a guest appearance from the Jersey Devil!
