New Hampshire and the other states in New England are often thought to be full of cute, quaint towns where everyone knows their neighbor and things are easy and simple. While we’d love that to be true, the reality is that most of this state is just like any other place. We’ve got stress and big box retailers! But, there’s certainly some truth to this. New Hampshire does have some of the most adorable tiny towns and we’ve compiled a few of them here on this list. While the information is pulled from the 2010 census, you can assume that these spots are still small and quintessentially New Hampshire!
This town has a population of about 300 people and they love the outdoor access that the town provides that they've even created the Randolph Mountain Club. That's not a surprise when you consider that part of the town lies within the White Mountain National Forest.
One of the larger of the tiny towns on this list, the population is a bit under 700. There are lots of small town features here including the adorable little library.
We won't be shocked if you've never been to this small town. But if not, you'll want to add it to your list of must-sees. It's home to the Pontoocook Reservoir which is a great place for bird-watching, kayaking and canoeing. The population is about 300, so you can be relatively certain that you'll have plenty of space to enjoy yourself undisturbed.
Sitting peacefully on the border of Maine just south of Conway, this little town has a population of about 400. And it's home to the Little White Church which sits on Crystal Lake and dates back to 1879.
This small town sees a lot of visitors looking to hike beautiful Mount Kineo. But once they bag that peak there won't be any celebratory beers. This is the only dry town in the state, which means you won't find any alcohol to buy! The population here is under 90.
This little town is a popular one for visitors looking to enjoy the great outdoors at Crawford Notch State Park, but the actual population is below 50. It's the smallest municipality in New Hampshire and while it utilizes services from neighboring Barrett it has its very own independent town government.
Located in a tucked away corner of the north end of Washington Valley, this little town is a great way to experience the nature of New Hampshire. Just ask the town's 330-ish residents who we imagine must feel extremely lucky!
One of the most peaceful lakes in the state is found in Umbagog State Park which can be found right in Errol. The population here is under 300 and with just four people per square mile there's lots of peace and quiet to be had.
The 340-ish residents that live here are lucky to have access to some of the best nature in New Hampshire. The town is right within White Mountain National Forest, which means tons of hiking and some great views. We love that the town is home to South Baldface, Kearsage North and even Upper Kimball Pond.
The origins of this small town date back to 1769! But if history isn't your thing maybe the fact that the town is home to Mount Cardigan is enough to draw you in. A popular hike for those from all over, this is a great place to visit if you love New Hampshire nature. The population is under 350 so this is another spot that will feel nice and quiet.
