Nevada is home to over 600 ghost towns and mining camps. Many of these towns have well-preserved buildings, and some of the towns only have concrete slabs as a reminder of Nevada’s early mining days. Most of the ghost towns in Nevada are completely abandoned and some are classified as “living ghost towns” because they still have inhabitants. Ghost towns, especially those that are completely abandoned, can be a bit creepy. Let’s take a look at 12 ghost towns in Nevada.
Rhyolite was founded in early 1905, and in 1911, the mine was closed because it was operating at a loss. Rhyolite soon became a tourist attraction, and is home to Tom Kelly's Bottle House and Goldwell Open Air Museum.
Aurora was founded in 1860, and armed conflict wasn't rare. Men had to carry knives and guns on a daily basis, and most of the conflicts ended in death.

Pioche is a living ghost town with about 900 residents. During its 1860s mining days, Pioche had approximately 8,000 residents. Many of the original structures are still standing today.

Virginia City is a semi-ghost town and many of the original buildings are still standing today from the town's early mining days.
In 1923, a fire caused by a moonshine still explosion destroyed most of the flammable buildings in Goldfield. Some of the buildings that existed prior to the fire still remain standing such as the hotel and high school. Also, it's believed that Goldfield Hotel is haunted.
Berlin was established in 1897 after the opening of the Berlin Mine. Berlin is now part of the Berlin-Ichthyosaur Nevada State Park.

Belmont was established in 1865 following a silver strike. The remains of a few buildings are still standing today such as the courthouse, the Cosmopolitan Saloon, and the Monitor-Belmont Mill.
Gold Point, a well-preserved ghost town, was first settled by ranchers and a few miners during the 1880s. Many buildings still stand today such as former Senator Harry Wiley's home, general stores, and the post office.
Gold was first discovered here in 1866. The town was vacated in the early 1930s, making it a true ghost town.
The best preserved building in this ghost town is a schoolhouse (pictured above) that was built on a hill facing the town. The school's name was Buena Vista.
