Everyone in Wyoming has a favorite trail, peak, or paddle spot, and for many of us, our hearts are taken by a place in the Wind River Range. See what makes this vast and rocky mountain range and canyon so special to Wyomingites, and add some Wind River adventure to your bucket list.
Wyoming's sprawling Wind River Range is home to 19 of the state's highest 20 peaks, and you'll unearth an incredible amount of treasure surrounding these rugged peaks.
The Winds, which span more than 100 miles, are the perfect place to hike in and camp. You'll be one with nature along the primitive, isolated trails and on the shoreline of glacial lakes.
While you're out exploring, remember that you share the land with the wildife. Leave no trace of your excursion, and keep your eyes peeled.
The legendary Titcomb Basin is a hike that needs to be at the top of your bucket list. It will take your breath away.
On the southern end of the Wind River Range you'll find Sinks Canyon.
This unique geologic feature shows off the spot where a river runs underground.
Shoshone National Forest and Bridger-Teton National Forest protect most of the land and provide visitors with an easy way to understand where they are hiking and exploring.
The beautiful alpine lakes of the range offer some of the best fly fishing you'll find in America. You don't need to shop for dinner when you can catch it yourself!
In the winter (or, let's face it, most of the year), the Wind River Range is home to some of the most incredible snowmobiling in the world.
In fact, the snow trails here are so amazing, most of the major snowmobile manufacturers test their sleds on these mountains.
If you feel the need for a little bit of civilization, stay in the charming town of Pinedale.
No matter when you visit the Wind River Range, you'll find adventure and recreation everywhere you look.
For more information on visiting Pinedale and kicking off your Wind River Range adventure, see the town's website here.
You'll love your adventure in the heart of wild Wyoming!
