This Easy Wyoming Hiking Trail Delivers Big Views for a Romantic Valentine’s Day
Love is in the air. So get out there.
When Valentine's Day rolls around, we're big fans of all the classic holiday traditions: chocolate, flowers, candlelit ambiance, and (of course) gazing into one another's eyes like there's nobody else in the room. But what about the rest of the day, long before the fancy dinner and dessert plans? This year, skip the norm and immerse yourself in something truly memorable; namely, the great outdoors!
There’s no better way to spend the most romantic holiday of the year than getting those winter endorphins flowing and working up a quick sweat. So, in the spirit of love, we dug through some of the most romantic hikes in Wyoming to bring you one that is sure to make your V-Day celebration truly breathtaking from start to finish. For a fantastic outing with your special someone, the gorgeous Bridal Veil Falls Trail near Cody is the perfect mid-winter hike to enjoy with your favorite person!
Truth be told, many a doting couple will find themselves heading to the Tetons at some point to enjoy some scenic, outdoorsy romance. But while there's no denying Grand Teton National Park's natural beauty (hello, Jenny Lake!), we think the most romantic day of the year deserves a jaunt that's a little more under the radar. A little more ... wild and unpredictable.
The four-mile Bridal Falls Trail in Clarks Fork Canyon is only about 45 minutes away from Cody, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a chilly mid-winter stroll, but still have time to make it back to town for those big dinner plans. (Try Trailhead if you're looking for a new go-to!)
This area is one that's truly spectacular in every way: from the breathtaking geology to the icy, year-round river to those crystal-clear bluebird skies that seem to ignite a glittering wonderland of snow every winter.
In the warmer months, Bridal Veil Falls tumbles off the edge of the Beartooth Plateau and plunges into a stunning hidden canyon on the north wall of the Clarks Fork River — an overlooked slice of Wyoming that doesn't get the attention it should. The trail is relatively flat and easy up until the last segment near the waterfall, which has an impressive run-off for most of the year. In winter, the heavy runoff often freezes over in an impressive, glacier-like display.
Due to its southern exposure, Bridal Veil Falls is an excellent hike in the winter. Snow often dusts the towering rock formations of the canyon, and the wide open river valley offers sweeping views of the surrounding peaks of the Shoshone National Forest. The scenery is constantly changing, and there are countless places to not only stop and take photos of the picturesque surroundings but maybe snap a few photos together too! Even though you'll be deep in the rugged, rocky wilds of Wyoming, you'll still have plenty of opportunities to catch beautiful golden hour peeks of light hitting the canyon walls.
This trail is rocky and beautifully frosted even on a cold, February morning, and captures the wild and diverse landscapes that Wyoming has come to be known for. You might even say that this spot has stood the test of time, much like your love for one another will!
What better way to spark the romance fireworks than by strolling hand in hand through the great outdoors? Exploring a humble backcountry trail like Bridal Veil Falls may not seem to scream romance, but when you and your other half find yourselves wandering through an amazing natural tapestry of rolling mountain ranges, pristine rivers, and awe-inspiring rock formations, you'll quickly realize there's really no better way to spend time with someone special! And after your hike, Cody has plenty of cozy cabins to settle into, complete with roaring fireplaces and hot tubs.
We're sure you're going to enjoy this scenic, crowdless slice of Wyoming no matter what Old Man Winter has planned this year — just you and your boo. And if you're looking for other ways to sweeten up this romantic day, be sure to check out our itinerary planner for other things to do nearby!
