The One Place In Wyoming That Looks Like Something From Middle Earth

Tolkien's realm of fantasy doesn't have to be experienced just from the pages of a book. It can be experienced right here in Wyoming because this very unique landscape looks like something from Middle Earth. Middle Earth, according to Tolkien, is our own earth placed back in a mythical era. Middle Earth is well represented right here in our very own Wind River Range. These Wyoming mountains are magnificent. Here, you will find a few mortal souls and probably a few other strange creatures in some of the most beautiful places in Wyoming.

Clark Lake And Beyond - Middle Earth

Wyoming's Clark Lake and Beyond could pass as a panoramic view of Tolkien's Middle Earth. Clark Lake is located in the area of Squaretop Mountain and is a great fishing spot.

Cirque of the Towers - Eriador

The area around Cirque of the Towers is reminiscent of Eriador in 'The Fellowship of the Ring.' Cirque of the Towers is located in the southern section of the Wind River Range and is a popular destination for technical rock climbing.

Mount Geikie - Misty Mountain

Misty Mountain is a mountain range that runs for thousands of miles through Middle Earth. The Fellowship attempts to cross this mountain range. Mount Geikie could definitely pass for Misty Mountain.

Hell's Chute - Mordor

Mordor maybe? Mordor is Sauron's base which is an evil black and barren land where he dwells. Hell's Chute is located at the headwaters of the Green River.

South Fork, Little Wind River Meadows - Greenwood The Great Before It Became Mirkwood

Sauron from 'The Hobbit' lived in Gol Dulgur while he was regaining his strength to bring evil to Middle Earth again. South Fork Little Wind River meadows or 'Gol Dulgur' are located in the vicinity of Fort Washakie.

Titcomb Basin - Rivendell

Rivendell is home to the Half-Elf Elrond. Frodo and his friends pass through here with the newly formed Fellowship. Titcomb Basin or the look-alike for Rivendell is an area known for its world-class fishing and climbing.

Wind River Range Waterfall - The Shire

The Shire is the homeland of the hobbits. This is where Bilbo and Frodo Baggins live. This is a beautiful hillside area in the Wind River Range with a waterfall that they could call home.

Cathedral Peak - Weathertop

Weathertop is the southernmost peak in Weather Hills. It's here that Frodo is injured. Cathedral Peak which resembles Weathertop is a mountain located in the southern portion of the Wind River Range.

Bridger Wilderness - The Old Forest and the Barrow Downs

This might be something you would see in the Old Forest and the Barrow Downs. If you're a hobbit, you're not going to want to venture far because it is a dark area with sinister trees lurking about.

Green River - Anduin

Green River could pass for the river east of the Misty Mountains. The Fellowship traveled down this river by boat. Green River Lakes is located in the northern Wind River Range in the vicinity of Squaretop Mountain.

The Wind River Range is a majestic and magical place. The Tolkien stories could have taken place and filmed right here in Wyoming!
