The Most Romantic Valentine’s Day Hike You’ll Find in Wisconsin

Celebrate Valentine's Day in Wisconsin with a gorgeous hike followed by a romantic dinner in Hudson

Our state is blessed with incredible natural beauty. From the shorelines of Lake Michigan and Lake Superior to the peninsulas of Bayfield and Door Counties; from the Driftless Area to Horicon Marsh, and all the other lakes, rivers, prairies, and forests in the Badger State, there are incredible things to see and do in Wisconsin. If you ask me, getting out on our state's superb hiking trails is the best way to enjoy all it beauty - and for like-minded couples, it can be incredibly romantic, as well. This is why I'm suggesting that a hike on the Willow Falls Trail at Willow River State Park is a perfect way to spend Valentine's Day in Wisconsin.

There are miles of options at Willow River State Park, but since it's Valentine's Day, I've chosen this relatively-easy two-mile loop, so you can get out and enjoy all the romance and nature that the park holds but still have time to partake in some other activities. The trail showcases some of Willow River's most beautiful terrain, including its stunning limestone gorge and Willow Falls, as well as some lovely forest trails. The trees and snow dampen the sound, emphasizing the intimacy of the adventure and perhaps even encouraging hand-holding.

This time of year, the waterfall is often frozen, creating an even more dramatic payoff for your romantic hike. The trees lining the gorge are glazed in frost, snow flecking the limestone walls. Listen for water flowing behind the icy shell, singing and tinkling in its winter casing. Could there be a more perfect backdrop for a Valentine's Day selfie?

When you've finished your hike, head toward historic downtown Hudson - just a few minutes from the trailhead - and make your way to San Pedro Cafe. Not only does it boast one of the best patios in the Badger State, it's a cozy and romantic dining spot to boot. Serving Caribbean-inspired cuisine and drinks (do order a mojito), this beloved Hudson eatery has been keeping folks warm in the wintertime for more than two decades - and it's perfect for an intimate Valentine's Day meal.

Since you're already in charming Hudson, why not take your Valentine's Day adventure a step further by reserving a room and turning the day into romantic overnight getaway? I don't think there's a better way to spend Valentine's Day in Wisconsin. What do you think? We'd love to hear about your favorite way to celebrate Valentine's Day.
