The One Beach In Wisconsin Where You Can Drive Right Up To The Water
Wisconsin isn’t a big destination for off road beach cruising, but there are a few places where you can get your car very close to the water’s edge. In far northern Wisconsin, you can experience the beauty of a pleasant stretch of lakeshore without leaving your car. It’s called Thompson's West End Park, and it’s a pleasant place, even if you’re sitting behind the wheel. The cool waters of Lake Superior will be right outside your car door. Here’s what you need to now about this pleasant Wisconsin Park.
Washburn is located in far northern Wisconsin, between Ashland and Bayfield. It’s a vacation destination that’s popular with paddlers, hikers, campers and anglers.
The park covers 27 acres, and the shoreline gradually slopes to the water.
You can drive very close to the water’s edge and take in the beauty of Lake Superior. You may be tempted to step into its cool waters.
Thompson's West End Park is a place for fishing, swimming, and camping.
If you don’t feel like leaving this beautiful park, no problem – you can camp here. The campground has dozens of pleasant and sunny sites.
The park has a soft sand beach that’s great for families and plenty of shore fishing spots.
It’s also located on an ATV trail and a walking path.
Be sure to bring a jug along to the park. There’s an old artesian well that produces some of the best water you’ve ever tasted. A steady stream of cars comes in just to fill up!
I recently enjoyed some time in this park. It’s a beautiful spot and a nice place to spend some time when you’re in Washburn. Get everything for your next trip to the beach at REI. Interested in more Wisconsin fun? Here are some of the state’s best attractions.
