The One Mesmerizing Place In West Virginia To See The Northern Lights

We're lucky to have a state full of natural beauty in West Virginia, where you don't have to travel far to get outside of the city and see brightly shining stars. There are a few spots in the state, however, where the night sky gets even darker than most people have ever seen. In one little park in Calhoun County, it even gets dark enough to sometimes see the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights.

The secluded Calhoun County Park is the perfect spot to spend a peaceful day or observe a starry sky at night.

The park's location away from the city makes it the perfect spot for viewing some of the darkest skies east of the Mississippi River.

Artificial lights are kept to a minimum so that light pollution doesn't interfere with the view.

It's a favorite location for astronomers and photographers to get a clear view of the stars.

If you'd like to spend the night enjoying the sky, there are campsites available, and the park's "Herb Smith" barn can be rented.
