This Epic Mountain In West Virginia Will Drop Your Jaw

West Virginia has many, many mountains, but none so high as this one! Read on to see the gorgeous views this mountain affords.

Spruce Knob, at 4,863 feet, is the highest point in West Virginia. It is the summit of Spruce Mountain and is located near Whitmer and Harman, W.Va.

it offers views of the Germany Valley, North Fork Mountain and the Allegheny Plateau.

The lower altitudes of the mountain are home to such creatures as black bears, bald eagles, hawks, peregrine falcons, deer, weasel, skunk, rabbit and porcupine.

Summers there are cool and often damp. Thunderstorms happen commonly both in spring and summer. The mountain is known to have high winds year around.

Winters on Spruce Mountain are cold and snowy. It gets an average of more than 180 inches of snow each year. The summit access road is often impassible between October and April.

The mountain has more than 75 miles of hiking trails as well as a 25-acre lake on the west side that is stocked with trout.

Spruce Knob is known for its dark skies, which are perfect for star gazing. It boasts some of the darkest skies east of the Mississippi River.
