This is the perfect spot to spend time in nature, time away from distraction, time in the mountains, time on the water.

Bring a fishing pole: this 25-acre lake is stocked regularly (sometimes even weekly!) with trout, and it's also filled with hungry bluegill.

Bring a boat: electric trolling motors and non-motorized boats are allowed on this calm, serene water.

Bring camping gear: there's a U.S. Forest Service campground right next door with 28 single campsites, 2 double campsites, and 12 walk-in campsites.

Bring hiking shoes: the mile long trail around the lake offers plenty of quiet time to think and plenty of scenic lake views to enjoy.

Bring a camera: in addition to pictures of the lake, you'll want pictures of the mountains, pictures of the blue sky, pictures of the sunrise, pictures of the sunset, pictures of the creek, pictures of the forest, and pictures of the stars.

Bring all-wheel drive: if there's one drawback to Spruce Knob Lake, it's getting here. Be prepared for a long drive on a narrow gravel road. All-wheel drive is strongly recommended.

Bring a friend: nature's beauty, as well as life's troubles, are often better shared.
