Ocean Shores is a pretty dreamy place. Aside from the fact that you're hanging out by the ocean, it's nice to see a beach town surrounded by beautiful nature. The Weatherwax Trail offers a glimpse into the diverse geology of the area. This nice, easy nature walk is fun for the whole family.
The Weatherwax Trail is 1.2 miles long.
The loop winds through the coastal forest of the Weatherwax Preserve.
This is a pretty easy trail, so it's a wonderful family-friendly experience.
Dogs are also welcome to join you as long as they stay leashed.
This preserve exists because of the efforts of the community.
It was almost lost to development, but the locals were able to save it. The result is a beautiful forest that is home to an abundance of wildlife and plant life.
Before long, you'll approach the edge of edge of Duck Lake, an important wetland ecosystem...
... and we highly recommend stopping for awhile and checking out the lake.
It's pretty rare to be able to enjoy some lake views in a beach town.
Of course, you'll have some legitimate ocean views as well.
This trail has something for everyone.
Enjoy The Weatherwax Trail to the fullest, but beware -- a lot of wildlife has been spotted in this area.
It's always the trails you least suspect.
Washington has some fantastic beachfront hikes that are well worth exploring. However, there's something extra-special about a hike like this, that takes you through coastal forest and rugged terrain first. The next time you find yourself in the area, make sure you check out the Weatherwax Trail. You'll find the trailhead for the preserve on Overlake Street, where there is limited complimentary parking.
