Most People Don’t Know There’s a Kayak Park Hiding In Washington

If you ever find yourself near Stanwood, the small city 50 miles north of Seattle, the best place for such adventures is Kayak Point Regional Park.

You'll find Kayak Point at 15610 Marine Drive in Stanwood.

The pleasant 428-acre saltwater beach park is located along the shores of Port Susan.

During our warmer months, this is a popular hangout... but since it's off the beaten path from most tourist destinations, it's rarely overcrowded.

Kayak Point is appropriately named. This is an ideal spot for both kayaking and canoeing.

You might even get to share the water with some gray whales, like this guy.

You'll see a lot of kayakers and swimmers on warm summer days.

Be aware that there are no lifeguards, so come with a friend (or a group).

You can even stay in a yurt or a three-bedroom craftsman home known as Kayak Kottage.

The sheltered picnic areas and barbecues provide the perfect area for a great lunch in between kayak adventures.

There are 23 RV sites and 9 tent sites here, but even if you're not spending the night, you should stay for the sunset.

It's spectacular.
