Escape To These 10 Hidden Oases In Washington To Find Peace And Quiet

If you're like most Washingtonians, you cram as much as possible into your days, especially during our beautiful summers. But if you're like most human beings, you also require plenty of downtime away from the chaos of everyday life.

When you need to relax, these are a few of the beautiful places in our state to find some peace.

1. Lummi Island

This peaceful island is a short ferry ride away from Bellingham, but you'll feel like you're in another world. Depending on the season, you may see seal pups on the shore, and you'll love strolling the relaxing summertime Saturday market. And if you can swing it, the expensive but amazing dining experience at The Willows is an unforgettable treat.

2. The Enchantments

Located about 15 miles southwest of Leavenworth, The Enchantments are a group of lakes and tarns considered to be one of the most spectacular locations in the Cascade range. Reaching them requires quite a hike, but the rewards are worth it.

3. Evergreen Arboretum And Gardens, 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett

Sometimes you just need a quick urban escape. Not only are these beautiful gardens in Everett often secluded, but visiting them is free.

4. Ross Lake National Recreation Area

Located just south of the Canadian border, the Ross Lake area is another secluded spot only available by hike. People from across the U.S. and Canada enjoy visiting for hiking, fishing, canoeing and enjoying nature.

5. Metaline Falls

Want to get away from it all while still enjoying all the basic amenities of town? Metaline Falls is a tiny community of about 250 people located way up in the northeast corner of the state. It is an absolutely beautiful area and a wonderful place to get away from (almost) everything.

6. Lopez Island

It's possible to find peace and quiet on any of the San Juan Islands, but Lopez is especially serene. With several waterfront parks, few amenities and plenty of peaceful farmland, you'll leave feeling rested and rejuvenated.

7. Rialto Beach

Located in Olympic National Park near La Push, Rialto Beach remains remarkably uncrowded even during tourist season. It's a great place to go for a sunset walk you don't want to share with 100 other people.

8. Riverside State Park

This 14,000-acre camping park is located just outside Spokane and Nine Mile Falls, and it also happens to be the largest state park in Washington. You'll have no problems getting away from it all here.

9. Lake Crescent, Port Angeles

Go for a day hike, rent a kayak or spend a relaxing night at the Lake Crescent Lodge. This lake is one of Western Washington's most beautiful spots.

10. Stehekin

Considering you can only reach the small community of Stehekin (located near Chelan) by boat or small personal aircraft, it's safe to say it doesn't get much quieter than this.
