Poulsbo is known as Washington's Little Norway, and the town definitely sticks to the theme... they even have a Viking Festival. That being said, Norwegians certainly aren't the only ones who love to fish. We're definitely known for our fishing here in the Pacific Northwest, and that's why Poulsbo's Fish Park is pure Washington.
Poulsbo's Fish Park consists of 40 acres on the Liberty Bay Estuary and Dogfish Creek
This urban nature park is the result of contributions from the city, tribes, state, and federal funds as well as the hard work of a lot of volunteers.
The park's fish theme is very subtle, although you will find a few reminders.
This driftwood fish sculpture, for example, is one of the top attractions.
The best way to see the park is to take the one-mile loop known as Poulsbo's Fish Park Trail.
As you can see, the trail is well-marked and easy to follow, and it showcases all the natural beauty of the area. But the trail doesn't support bicycles, so you'll have to walk it through the park or chain it up as you stroll.
The trail includes plenty of boardwalks and viewing platforms for you to stop and take it all in.
Keep an eye out for different kinds of wildlife when you're here. Birds, bats, and reptiles are common, as well as the obvious (fish, although you'll know where to look for those).
The idea was to create a park that would serve as a reflective place to enjoy a reminder of our natural heritage.
And now, it's a beloved local gem.
There are plenty of benches and picnic tables for those who come purely to relax.
But if you're taking the trail, please don't randomly step off of it or try to go your own way. You might end up damaging this delicate ecosystem.
Poulsbo's Fish Park is located in the heart of town, meaning it's a lot easier to find than fish are to catch.
The park is open daily from 8a.m. - 8p.m. for your enjoyment.
Address: 288 Northwest Lindvig Way, Poulsbo, WA, 98370
