The summer of 2018 was a hot and smoky one for most of Washington, but we're starting to ease into another beautiful autumn. Saying goodbye to long, sunny days and warm nights isn't easy, but it might help knowing that our fall foliage is expected to be especially amazing this year.
We may not be as famous for our fall foliage as the East Coast, but we still get some richly colored leaves here in Washington.
While different parts of the state will have peak foliage at different times, you'll be able to see it no matter where you live.
A lot of factors go into fall foliage, but basically, it all comes down to weather.
For example, a colder spring than usual sometimes delays the onset, but that means the leaves are more vibrant than usual when they do start to turn.
The good news is, despite this year's wildfires, we're still expected to have an incredible fall.
Leavenworth even have a fall foliage festival on September 29 and 30.
Fall foliage usually starts to peak in Washington in late September, but this year, the dates are a little later.
The Farmers' Almanac predicts that October 12-28 will be especially colorful for Washington.
Autumn is actually the perfect time to visit Mt. Rainier National Park.
The fall foliage there in early October is unreal.
Of course, the North Cascades is where you'll find some of the best fall foliage in the state.
