Escape To These 10 Hidden Oases In Washington To Find Peace And Quiet
Discover peaceful and quiet retreats in Washington to recharge and escape the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Sometimes life gets a little too hectic to handle without a break. That's when it's best to recharge somewhere where enjoying peace and quiet is more than a pipe dream. Luckily, there are plenty of hidden oases here in Washington just waiting to help you relax. These are a few of our favorites.
1. Beacon Rock State Park
Located on Highway 14 near North Bonneville in Skamania County, Beacon Rock State Park offers breathtaking views of the Columbia Gorge and a sweeping trail that takes you straight to the top of the rock.
2. Lonesome Cove Waterfront Cabins, San Juan Island
This peaceful collection of cabins sits right on the water, and it's one of the most tranquil spots on the already quiet island. Relax and unwind here for a few days and you'll be (almost) ready to rejoin civilization.
3. Goldmyer Hot Springs, North Bend
This small, privately-owned hot springs pool can't accommodate many — but if you time it right, you'll have the place to yourself. It involves quite a hike to reach and costs $15 per day to use, which might deter some people.
4. Discovery Park, Seattle
Believe it or not, you don't even have to leave city limits to enjoy peace and quiet. Discovery Park is a 5340acre park in Seattle's Magnolia neighborhood, and it's easy to escape the urban noise and relax.
5. Little Spokane Natural Area
For decades, the Little Spokane River Natural Area has been a haven for flora, fauna and wildlife. No bikes or dogs are allowed, so this is a place you can come for a quiet hike.
6. Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve, Whidbey Island
While tourists often flock to Deception Pass State Park in Oak Harbor, Ebey's Landing often stays quiet. Parts of the park are privately-owned, but you're welcome to explore most of the area as long as you're respectful.
7. Crawford State Park, Metaline Falls
You'll find this 49-acre park nestled in the northeast corner of the state. You can take a tour of Garner Cave, a 500-year-old cavern, or just enjoy a peaceful picnic.
8. Cattle Point, Friday Harbor, San Juan Island
Located on the southern tip of San Juan Island, Cattle Point has some of the best beach scenery on the island. Wander along the trail to see the lighthouse, which dates back to 1888, and wildlife like eagles and sea lions.
9. Upper Dungeness Trail, Olympic National Park
If you need an escape from the world and you're in great shape, hike this 12-mile trail that's located about 3 miles from Sequim. It's rated as difficult, which prevents many from attempting it, but the scenery is breathtaking.
10. Stimpson Family Nature Preserve, Bellingham
When you need a quiet walk in the woods in the Bellingham area, just head to the Stimpson Family Nature Preserve. Donated by three generations of the Stimpson family, it offers a restful respite from the city and a haven for the area's wildlife.
Washington has plenty of places you can escape to for some peace and quiet. And if you're looking for a more permanent break from a fast-paced life, you can always move to one of these towns.
