This itinerary includes hikes, site-seeing, restaurants, beautiful accommodations, and, of course, the best waterfalls in Virginia. 1. The waterfall at Maymont (Richmond)

Our adventure begins with Richmond's gorgeous park, Maymont. Located in the Japanese Garden, this man-made waterfall is positively breathtaking. It drops 45 feet and is supplied by the Kanawha Canal. Learn more about the history of Maymont in Richmond.

2. Lamplighter Roasting Coffee (Richmond)

Just a mile away from Maymont is one of Richmond's most beloved coffee shops. If you want to grab a coffee and a delicious breakfast before heading out on the rest of your road trip, this is the spot. This little stop may not be waterfall themed, but it sure is delicious! 3. Crabtree Falls (Montebello)

Crabtree Falls is an absolute must for any waterfall enthusiast. It's undoubtedly one of the best waterfalls in Virginia. Not only is this waterfall easily accessible (the parking lot is located just a few hundred feet from the base), but it also happens to be the tallest series of cascading falls east of the Mississippi. You can either admire this beauty from the base or enjoy the trail that meanders alongside the falls. Just be sure to stay on the marked pathway as the rocks can be fatally slippery.

4. Falling Spring Falls (Covington)

This extravagant, 80-foot waterfall may just take your breath away. Tucked away in the Alleghany Highlands, these falls can be accessed from Route 220 and are just 5 miles outside of Covington. 5. The Waterwheel Restaurant (Warm Springs)

After a full day of exploring and hiking, you'll want a place to rest and enjoy a delectable meal. Fortunately, the Inn at Gristmill Square is just a short drive from the previous destination and can offer both. 6. Overall Run Falls

Overall Run Falls, located in the northern section of Shenandoah National Park, is the tallest fall in the park. This 93-foot-long cascade is an extraordinary site which offers beautiful views of both the Shenandoah Valley and Massanutten Mountain. You can access the falls at mile 21.1 along the Drive and can make an afternoon out of the 3-mile hike that takes you to the falls.

Side note: for anyone looking to include a little camping in this weekend itinerary, Matthews Arm Campground is the closest to this particular waterfall. Either way, be sure to allow plenty of time to take advantage of this gorgeous landscape.

7. 2941 Restaurant (Falls Church)

This seventh and final destination on your waterfall road trip combines the best of both worlds: waterfalls and delicious food. 2941 Restaurant in Falls Church is set amidst a gorgeous display of urban gardens and waterfalls. It's a great spot for a late lunch or dinner, depending on when you finish up the drive. And don't forget dessert!
