Situated along U.S. Route 220 near Covington, Virginia awaits an extraordinary natural attraction known as Falling Spring Falls.
This magnificent waterfall has impressed visitors for centuries. In fact, Thomas Jefferson himself noted that it must be the finest cascade in the entire country.
However, these falls were not the original 200-foot cascades that Thomas Jefferson saw. The falls were moved by the Ohio C. Barber Fertilizer Company and now fall just 80 feet.
Perhaps the most magical aspect about this waterfall is the fact that you can admire it right from the road. Simply pull off of Route 220 in the designated parking area, and you'll be steps away from the overlook.
No matter the season, this waterfall is stunning. Whether framed by wildflowers or surrounded by bare trees, it's undoubtedly the most magical aspect of the landscape.
So pack a picnic, don't forget your camera, and enjoy the magnificent view of one of Virginia's finest natural attractions.
