Here in Virginia, we have several beaches worth bragging about. From the ever-popular Virginia Beach to the more secluded Sandbridge, Cape Charles, and Chincoteague, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the ocean. Yet you’d be surprised by how many inland beaches we have to enjoy also. Today’s feature destination is one such example. Smith Mountain Lake Beach is a gorgeous recreational lake in Huddleston that happens to have a fantastic swimming beach. And if you’ve never visited, you’ll want to make some room on your bucket list. We guarantee that this hidden gem beach in Virginia will become one of your new favorite spots.
The public swimming beach at Smith Mountain Lake State Park is a must if you're looking for family-friendly fun this summer.
The 500-foot beach is the only one of its kind on the whole lake, and it's been a favorite since it opened in 1989.
The swimming beach is also guarded, which will add to your peace of mind if you're bringing little ones with you.
As you can see from the photos, the beach is picture-perfect. Soft sand paired with tranquil blue water makes the perfect backdrop for a day of fun in the sun.
Plus, there's plenty of room around the beach to set up under the shade of a tree or in a lounge chair.
When you're ready for a refreshment, check out the snack bar, just a quick walk from the beach. There's also a small playground nearby.
Of course, the beach is just the beginning of all that Smith Mountain Lake State Park has to offer. From kayaking to hiking, fishing, boating, and more, there's no shortage of adventures.
