Devil’s Marbleyard Is A Magical Place In Virginia That You Thought Only Existed In Your Dreams

Devil’s Marbleyard in Virginia offers a challenging hike with surreal boulder formations and breathtaking views.

Some of Virginia's natural wonders are so beautiful, they almost take on a surreal quality. That's exactly what you'll discover at Devil's Marbleyard, a magical place in Virginia that seems like something from a dream. This crumbling mountaintop features boulders so large they're almost cartoon-like. Navigating them is both challenging and -- for the adventurous hiker -- a lot of fun. Plus, the views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains are unforgettable.

One of the easiest ways to access Devil's Marbleyard is via the Belfast Trail, a 3.2-mile trail located just outside of Lexington, Virginia.

One thing to note is that the designated parking area is really small, only holding enough space for about 7 vehicles. Be sure to arrive early!

The trail follows Belfast Stream up the mountain, eventually arriving at a giant boulder field.

During the last ice age, freeze-and-thaw weather patterns created the giant boulders you'll see today.

Some hikers enjoy scrambling to the top of the boulders, although there is a designated trail that will take you up the mountain.

As you can imagine, this hike is not for beginners and features a dramatic incline. Sturdy hiking boots are a must.

And be sure to watch where you step!

For those that brave the rock scramble all the way to the summit, the views are absolutely breathtaking.

So the next time you're searching for a difficult hike that promises to be a thrilling adventure, you might consider visiting the iconic Devil's Marbleyard.
