Today’s trail is special not just because it’s relatively easy, but also because it features two of our favorite outdoor items: waterfalls and wildflowers! Looking for a breathtaking hike near McLean, Virginia? We've got you covered! Today, we're headed to Scott's Run Nature Preserve to enjoy the Woodland and River Trail Loop.

As implied by the name, this lovely and easy trail offers a mix of beautiful woods and waterfront views.

The loop measures approximately 2.5 miles and is suitable for most abilities. You should plan to wear sturdy hiking shoes for a few of the rockier portions of the trail.

There are a couple of relatively steep downhill sections, and at times, they can become slippery due to rain.

In addition to the dirt and gravel paths, you'll enjoy a handful of stream crossings, such as this magical one below. Doesn't this remind you of something from a fairytale?

Best of all? You glimpse some cascades and a beautiful waterfall along the way! It's a great time to take a break from hiking and enjoy the lovely sights and sounds that nature provides.

This is a popular trail year-round, but it's especially popular in the early spring, when wildflowers are abundant.

It's possible to see varieties of trailing arbutus, Virginia bluebells, and trillium bloom along the trail and cliffs hugging the river.
