The Boldest And Biggest Meteor Shower Of The Year Will Be On Display Above Vermont In December
Vermont offers a plethora of breathtaking natural attractions, including gorges, caves, waterfalls, and scenic vistas.
There's far from a shortage of natural wonders to see and experience if you're in Vermont. For starters, you can check off viewing one of the most impressive meteor showers from your list when you're in the Green Mountain State this winter. That's right, mark your 2022 calendar for the December Geminid meteor shower. As you'll soon learn, this magical event will leave you in awe of the night sky.
The 2022 Geminid meteor shower is expected from November 19 through December 24th. However, the opportune time to view this phenomenon is between December 13 and 14.
This wondrous spectacle in the night sky is all due to the asteroid named 3200 Phaethon.
While most meteor showers are from comets, the 2022 Geminid meteor shower is from rocks. This unique phenomenon was discovered in 1983 when it was found that 3200 Phaethon had the same orbit as the Geminids meteor shower.
This was the first time it was confirmed that an asteroid can cause a meteor shower.
During the 2022 Geminid meteor shower, it's anticipated that up 150 meteors can be seen in an hour. However, this depends on the weather and other viewing conditions.
This year, there's also a high probability that the moon will interfere with getting to see the meteor shower in all its glory.
Furthermore, the best time to view the Geminid meteor shower is around 2:00 am, from a dark location in the Green Mountain State.
Regardless of where you view this impressive event, make sure to have a proper camera with you so you can capture the fast white lights shooting from the sky.
