Diablo Lake in the North Cascade mountains of Washington looks like something from a dream.

Perched 1,201 feet above sea level, the lake is filled with the bluest water imaginable.

The reservoir's intense hue is attributed to the lake’s unique location between glaciers.

The glaciers grind rocks into a fine powder that is carried to the lake via creeks.

There, the powder remains suspended in the water and lends it an otherworldly color.

It’s a popular spot for fishing, especially since the lake is rich with rainbow, coastal, brook, cutthroat and bull treat.

As you can probably guess, it’s also a great spot to camp, kayak and canoe.

Diablo Lake is part of the Ross Lake National Recreation Area and can be reached via Highway 20. The lake is managed by the Skagit River Hydroelectric Project, which offers daily boat tour in the summer. Click here to find out more about exploring the lake.
