12 Thoughts Every Texan Has When Winter Is Approaching
Winter in Texas is a humorous mix of unpredictable weather and seasonal confusion.
Winter is an interesting anomaly here in Texas. It's mostly nonexistent save for a few random bone-chillingly cold weeks in January, and then it's right back to being summer again for the rest of the year. Thanks to the unpredictable weather, lack of snow, and the fact that Christmas can be spent in shorts and a t-shirt, winter in Texas makes us all feel a certain way. I guarantee these thoughts are starting to creep up in the back of your mind - I know they are for me.
1. What should I wear today? A parka and bikini bottoms? Or a bikini top with leggings and boots, perhaps?
2. Oh my god, sleet! Let's shut down the entire state!
3. Can we build a snowman out of frost? Sticks? Tumbleweeds, maybe?
4. Do I still need sunscreen in the dead of winter? Oh wait, this is Texas. Of course I do.
5. I wonder what it would be like to have to shovel snow off of my driveway every morning. Nevermind, I think I'll keep my Texas pseudo-winter.
6. Actually, I think frost is worse than snow. This newspaper isn't as thick as it looks, and I probably shouldn't have woken up 20 minutes before I have to leave for work.
7. Is it socially acceptable to go tanning in December? I think it should be.
8. It's gonna be 60 in the morning? Welp, I guess it's time to break out the parka. And uggs. And scarf and gloves.
9. All these sporadic weather changes are stressing me out. Can I just hibernate and rejoin society in the spring when we have some kind of pattern going?
10. Why is the weatherman making it seem like the Ice Age is happening outside? Chill out, it sleeted for like 5 minutes.
11. It would be really nice to actually need a jacket to go pick out our Christmas tree.
12. There are actually places where it gets COLDER than this? Those poor, miserable souls. I may complain about our lack of snow, but I'm so grateful to not live in a freezer.
Can you relate to these thoughts? What other thoughts do you have when winter is on the horizon in Texas?
