The Unrivaled Canyon Hike In Texas Everyone Should Take At Least Once
There are so many things to do in Texas - restaurants, festivals, cute small towns - and of course, nature that's unmatched by anything else. Big Bend automatically comes to mind when we think about the mountains in our state, but there's one place in particular that rises far above it (literally). Guadalupe Peak trail in Guadalupe Mountains National Park takes you through ascending canyons, steep cliffs, and raging waterfalls before reaching a summit of over 8,000 feet, making it the highest point in the entire state. If you want to feel on top of the world, this is the hike for you.
Although relatively strenuous, this hike is absolutely worth it as it offers some of the most breathtaking views in all of Texas.
The steepest part of the trail is the first mile and a half, and it levels off after that - however, you may not want to stop climbing because the scenery gets better and better as you ascend that first stretch.
You'll see several different ecosystems, some you wouldn't believe exist in Texas but do because the normally oppressive sunlight has trouble reaching the highest points of the mountains.
After about four miles, you'll come to the summit, the highest point in Texas at 8,749 feet. You'll feel quite literally on top of the world as you look out at the expansive scene before your eyes.
There's even a campsite up there for the most adventurous, bravest souls who aren't afraid of spending the night thousands of feet in the air.
The hike is about 8.5 miles round-trip and takes anywhere from 6-8 hours, but it's easily the most beautiful, most obligatory hike for Texans to experience.
When you're standing on top of that mountain with the whole world spread out in front of you, you'll experience a level of contentment you never thought possible.
Have you ever hiked Guadalupe Peak trail? Was it as beautiful as it looks in pictures? What are some of your favorite hikes in Texas?
