Travel Back To The Pioneer Days At This Living History Farm In Texas

Experience a bygone era when you visit the Sauer-Beckmann Farm at Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site. This unique living history farm in Texas shows you the ins and outs of life on a 19th-century homestead. Actors dressed in period clothing churn butter, forge tools, and go about other daily activities that once took place in this entirely self-sustaining community.

Right next door to Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site in Stonewall, the ‎Sauer-Beckmann Farm is a living history farm that will take you back to turn-of-the-century America.

The farm belonged to two German families, the Sauers and the Beckmanns, between the late 1860s and late 1960s before it was acquired by Texas Parks & Wildlife in 1966.

Park rangers dressed in period clothing carry on the families' legacies by carrying out all the day-to-day activities that would've taken place on the homestead.

Visitors will learn about everything from the process of making butter...

...to canning and butchering (depending on the season) and so much more.

You will also see a variety of livestock, including sheep, pigs, and cows, that were precious resources to 19th-century Americans.

Guests can also step inside the blacksmith shop, marvel at the well-kept garden, and bear witness to virtually every other process that once took place in the self-sustaining community.

The home itself is also truly fascinating to explore. If you visit around lunchtime, you may get to see some of the "family members" preparing the daily meal on the old-fashioned cookstove!

Admission to the farm is free; however, donations are encouraged. The staff is very friendly and eager to answer any questions you may have. If your trip happens to fall around a major holiday, such as Easter or Christmas, you're in for an even more special treat!
