Hike the challenging Guadalupe Peak Texas Highpoint Trail for stunning views and a rewarding experience.

If you want to live life on the edge, hike the Guadalupe Peak Texas Highpoint Trail located near Salt Flat, Texas. It's about nine miles out and back. This hike is known for its stunning views and treacherous ascent toward the sky. It's rated as difficult and is known for being a real challenge. It's not impossible, though, and if you come prepared, you'll enjoy the experience. As you'll read, it won't take long until we answer the question, "Are the Guadalupe Peaks dangerous?"

Guadalupe Peak Texas Highpoint Trail is arguably one of the most beautiful in the state.

It is accessible through Guadalupe Mountain National Park and you'll find very nominal day and annual pass fees.

It is arguably one of the most dynamic hikes in Texas as well.

You can expect stunning views at the top. You'll also encounter changing plant and animal life as you hike up in elevation.

The beginning of the trail is the most treacherous.

Past hikers have warned that the beginning is the steepest part.

Look what awaits you at the top of the summit!

This monument sits at the highest point in Texas: 8,749 feet in elevation!

Hikers have also recommended you be aware of the winds on the day you plan to hike.

The trail has many abrupt drop-offs, such as this one.

Here, a bridge protects hikers from falling off the edge. Be extra careful along the edges of other cliffs.

It is recommended by the park that hikers plan to spend six to eight hours hiking the entirety of the trail.

Depending on your hiking experience, it may take shorter or longer.

Always hike with plenty of water.

Because of the length of this trail, it is also suggested that you bring along a bite to eat to keep you fueled.

As the sunlight shines down on you, wear a hat or sunscreen.

There isn't a lot of shade at the beginning. Once you reach the pine forest area, there will be some relief from the sun.
