Explore the diverse and stunning natural wonders of Texas, from canyons and caves to waterfalls and unique rock formations.
Get your binoculars ready, because an epic display will soon take over the sky. A total lunar eclipse is set to occur this weekend, and it'll definitely dazzle you. Set aside your plans and push back your bedtime. The next lunar eclipse will be visible from Austin and you won't want to miss out.
If you've ever seen a lunar eclipse, you know how breathtaking it is.
You don't need any special equipment to witness this stunning sight, but a pair of binoculars will help you capture every little detail.
But this year's eclipse will be even more spectacular.
That's right -- this year's eclipse will be a "super blood wolf moon." When lunar eclipses occur, sunlight passes through the atmosphere. This traps and spreads the blue light in the spectrum. That's why you'll see a gorgeous red hue take over the moon. It's simply stunning.
It will also be a "supermoon," so it'll appear even larger than usual.
This weekend, the full moon will reach the closest point to earth in its orbit. This means that it will appear 14% larger and 30% brighter! Just when you thought this phenomenon couldn't get more exciting, mother nature exceeds your expectations.
The eclipse will be visible in Austin beginning around 9:30 pm on January 20th.
The moon will start to turn red at 9:33 on Sunday evening. By 10:41, the total eclipse will begin and you'll start to see moon turn completely red. At 11:12, the moon will be closest to the center of the shadow. The total eclipse will end at 11:43, but the spectacle will still be slightly visible until around 1:30 am.
Don't let the light pollution ruin your view -- venture out to the Hill Country and absorb the serene settings.
Blanco, Texas is already beautiful, but you know what makes it even better? There aren't any big city street lights. This would be the perfect place to escape to during the lunar eclipse.
Or you could camp at Enchanted Rock and see the event from Fredericksburg.
Turn off your phone and cancel your plans. When you're at Enchanted Rock, you already feel more in touch with nature. As the moon glows in the night sky, you'll completely forget about any hassles. There's a reason why Native Americans believed this granite dome has magical powers -- the views are otherworldly.
Where are you going to watch this year's eclipse?
