Cummins Falls State Park is located in Cookeville, Tennessee, and it remains one of the most popular hiking and swimming parks in the state.

It's best known for Cummins Falls, the eighth largest waterfall in the state at 75 feet high.

The state park itself is gorgeous, but keep in mind that the day-use area is rustic and its natural integrity has been preserved.

Though it wasn't honored as a state park until much more recently, folks have utilized the Cummins Falls area for over a century for its idyllic beauty.

Looking to hike down the gorge, to the waterfall? Get ready for a hike of roughly a mile, and you'll want to make sure you bring shoes that can get dirty!

The trail itself remains fairly rugged and is not suitable for young children. Of course, if you make the trek, the outcome is beautiful and well worth the trouble, but you'll want to make sure you use good judgment throughout your time in the park.

There are two hikes that will take you down into the gorge of Cummins Falls, one roughly a mile and the other coming in at about a mile and a half. Plan for a steep incline and rough terrain, folks! The trail isn't paved.

Cummins Falls State Park is a day-use park, so keep in mind that you can't camp in the park. It's open from sunrise to sundown every day.

Make sure to bring your swimsuit and slip into the knee-deep plunge pool to keep the heat at bay.
