Falls Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, features the tallest waterfall in the state and offers a scenic, family-friendly outdoor experience.

Spending time outside surrounded by nature is so good for the soul, isn't it? Here in South Dakota, we're pretty blessed. We get to breathe in the fresh air, feel the golden sunshine on our skin, and, if we're lucky, even stumble upon some breathtaking natural wonders. It goes without saying that we have an abundance of natural beauty in our magnificent state, and the spot we're featuring today definitely falls in that category. We're not exactly known for waterfalls in South Dakota: while we do have a few South Dakota waterfalls, there's nothing with the notoriety or jaw-dropping scale of Niagara Falls or Yellowstone Park here. However, we do have some cascades that are definitely worth a visit, one of which is the Sioux Falls Waterfall. This is the tallest waterfall in South Dakota and it can be reached on the Falls Park Trail, an easy path within Falls Park in the city of Sioux Falls. Let's take a peek:

Falls Park is one of our favorite parks in the city of Sioux Falls. It's a great place to connect with nature and stretch your legs without even having to leave the city, and the fact that it's home to the tallest waterfall in South Dakota is certainly a bonus.

The Falls Park Trail is an easy loop that only measures about a mile. It will take you all through the sprawling park and head straight to the gushing waterfall. There are several great vantage points to get a perfect capture of this magnificent natural wonder.

You'll stroll along a paved, wheelchair-accessible concrete path, admiring the lush grass and towering trees that surround you, until you reach the pedestrian bridge.

The bridge stands right over the waterfall, promising sweeping panoramic views and the opportunity to snap unforgettable photographs.

The waterfall here is a main draw for many visitors, but this is a great little park. After admiring the cascades, go for a leisurely stroll around the park, or spend the entire day here. Bring along a picnic and enjoy an al fresco lunch. You can choose a spot at one of the park's many picnic tables, or find a grassy spot near the waterfall to spread out on a blanket.

Don't feel like packing your own food? The Falls Overlook Cafe offers up great views, plus a menu full of filling lunches or delicious small snacks.

It's one of our favorite waterfront restaurants in South Dakota.

There's lots to do here, including playgrounds for the little ones, drinking fountains, a visitors center, and sculptures.
