Spend The Day Exploring Caves In South Dakota’s Black Hills

Everyone knows that the Black Hills are home to some of the most incredible landmarks in the country (we are looking at you, Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse!), but did you know that this region of South Dakota is also considered the "Undisputed queen of maze caves in the U.S.?" Located in southwest South Dakota, the Black Hills are a beautiful mountain range that spans 110 miles and includes everything from jaw-dropping lakes to wildlife galore to - you guessed it! - caves.

Wind Cave National Park

Located near Hot Springs, Wind Cave National Park is home to a complex cave system that dates back millions of years and spans nearly 140 miles, making it the 6th-longest cave in the world. In addition to this, the Wind Cave also boasts 95% of the world's discovered boxwork formations, making for a one-of-a-kind experience. Black Hills Caverns

Welcome to the aptly-named Black Hills Caverns! First discovered in 1882, the Black Hills Caverns have "rock formations like you have never seen," all of which can be explored during one of their exciting, family-friendly tours! To schedule your tour, check out their website.

Jewel Cave National Monument

Now that you have explored the world's 6th-longest cave, it's time to check out the 3rd-longest: Jewel Cave! Boasting 200 miles of plotted passageways, Jewel Cave is THE place to be if you crave a true spelunking adventure, as the seasonal Wind Caving Tour (pictured) gives guests a chance to see new and narrow parts of the cave. Rushmore Cave

You know Rushmore Mountain Adventure Park as the Mount Rushmore State's best amusement park, but did you know it also houses a cave?
