The Ocean State undoubtedly has some incredible seafood joints. Mouthwatering clam cakes, stuffies, lobster rolls, and clam chowder are classic staples of our favorite restaurants. But there is one Rhode Island clam shack that has shown it can weather any storm and still consistently serve outstanding food.
Flo's Clam Shack in Middletown was established in 1936 and was much smaller then than it is today. This seafood spot has battled Mother Nature to keep its doors open for more than 80 years.
The Hurricane of 1938 demolished this Rhode Island clam shack early in its history, but it was reconstructed. Hurricane Carol in 1954, Hurricane Donna in 1960, Hurricane Gloria in 1985, and Hurricane Bob in 1991 all hit Flo's Clam Shack hard causing the restaurant to rebuild again and again, but we are so glad they did!
After five reconstructions, this Rhode Island clam shack is a fixture in the community. Walk down the boardwalk through a green tunnel of vegetation to enjoy a charismatic atmosphere and some of the most legendary seafood in the area.
The downstairs dining room is a cheerful space dominated by nautical decor.
Upstairs features more mementos to the coast along with a delightful aquarium and bar area.
There is also patio seating available upstairs, and outdoor seating on the ground level if you would rather dine amidst the shoreline breezes.
Flo's is most famous for their delicious clam cakes with more than 40 million sold.
Dive into a plate of crispy fish and chips to enjoy the classic New England coastal dish.
Enjoy fresh lobster rolls and crab sandwiches to satisfy your biggest cravings.
For a little heat, try Flo's fiery stuffed quahogs. These are more than a mouthful and packed with flavor.
There are other options besides seafood at this Rhode Island clam shack. Flo's also serves up some juicy hamburgers and gourmet hot dogs,
If you prefer something a bit lighter, try visiting the topside raw bar for oysters, clams, shrimp, and more.
Against all odds and Mother Natures wrath, Flo's Clam Shack can be found at 4 Wave Ave.,
Middletown, RI. It's open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and in season, the clam shack is open daily, but never during hurricanes.
